Louis van Gaal ‘rejected chance to sign Cristiano Ronaldo after Real Madrid star was offered to Manchester United by agent Jorge Mendes’

'Van Gaal rejected chance to sign Ronaldo in January'

Louis van Gaal reportedly rejected the opportunity to sign former Manchester United ace Cristiano Ronaldo after being offered the Ballon d’Or winner by the Real Madrid star’s agent.

Spanish journalist Alfredo Duro claimed on television show El Chiringuito that Ronaldo’s representative, Jorge Mendes, met United’s chief scout Martin Ferguson – the brother of Sir Alex Ferguson – to discuss a potential transfer last month.
Duro claimed that Ferguson informed current Red Devils boss Van Gaal of the negotiations, but the Dutchman said no to the prospective deal.
Ronaldo, 30, has been linked with a transfer back to his former side in recent weeks, with reports in Spain stating the Portugal international’s age is a factor in Real being willing to part with their star.
